A successful panel was held for the advancement of the position of student athletes

The University of Zagreb Sports Office organized an exceptionally important panel within the University Review called Round Table – Challenges in Studying for Top Athletes, bringing together top speakers who engaged in an in-depth discussion about the real problems faced by student athletes. The event was a platform for exchanging ideas and solutions that would significantly improve their status and experience.

Among the distinguished speakers were:

  • Dr. Sc. Zlatko Mateša, President of the Croatian Olympic Committee
  • Mr. Haris Pavletić, President of the Croatian Academic Sports Federation
  • Prof. Dr. Sc. Mario Baić, Dean of the Faculty of Kinesiology, University of Zagreb
  • Mr. Gordan Kožulj, celebrated Croatian swimmer
  • Mr. Damir Martin, one of the most successful Croatian rowers
  • Mrs. Sadea Bećirović, student and top karateka who recently won a bronze medal at the World Karate Championships and is also the national academic champion in her category.

The President of the Croatian Academic Sports Federation, Haris Pavletić, highlighted several key topics, including the role of top athletes in the UniSport system, the benefits that UniSport provides to student athletes, the university and the city, and the legacy that remains after major sporting events such as EUG Zagreb-Rijeka 2016. Sadea, on the other hand, shared what it means to be a top athlete and an excellent student and the challenges she faces, and the whole conversation represents a step towards improving the conditions for student athletes, encouraging dialogue and working together towards creating a positive environment for young athletes within the university system.

Vice President of HASS Sanja Ćurković was also part of the 28th Review

Vice President of the Croatian Academic Sports Federation Sanja Ćurković, the day before, was part of the round table “The Dark Side of the Medal: Characteristics, Consequences, and Prevention of Violence in Youth Sports in Croatia.” Panelists briefly presented the activities they undertake regarding the prevention of violence in sports, followed by an open discussion. As one of the five umbrella sports organizations in Croatia, our position is always against violence, and that is the most important message we send through this activity.
